On May 3, local time, the18th “Chinese Bridge” QualifyingCompetition in Ghana took place at the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana,co-runwith Zhejiang University of Technology.
In the speech contest themed“one world, one family”, the contestants, through their personal experiences, expressed their enthusiasm for the Chinese language and their wish to promote the friendship between China and Ghana.
In the following Q&A and talent show sessions, the contestants showed their good command of the language and their perceptions of China’s history, culture and national conditions.
After fierce competitions, Nathan from the University of Ghana won the TopPrize and Confucius Institute Scholarship.He wouldthen represent Ghana in the grandfinals in China.
For the time being, more than 3,000 college students and around 7,000 primary and secondary school students in Ghana are learning Chinese. Thanks to the Belt and Road initiative, the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghanahas become a bridge for language and cultural exchange between Ghana and China, and a bond of friendship between the two peoples.
